We the undersigned believe that the Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Library system is one of the finest in the nation. As a reflection of the CMLs stature, we believe CML patrons should have a choice whether or not to use self-checkout machines when borrowing materials from the library. Moreover, we believe CML employees should be allowed the opportunity of checking out materials for patrons who choose not to use the self-checkout machines.
We the undersigned believe that future fundamental changes in the way the CML serves the community should be publicized to CML patrons and Library members before, and instead of, being implemented with little fanfare and little input from the community at large. We also believe that making the use of self-checkout machines optional, instead of mandatory, will 1) foster good will towards the Columbus community, 2) give patrons - who fund the CML through their tax dollars more choices, and 3) have the important benefit of fostering more, friendly, interaction between library employees and patrons.
