We the undersigned request that the Wayne National Forest open equestrian trails year round, beginning April 1-March 31.
For the following reasons: The current riding season is April 15- December 15, which limits and reduces optimal equestrian riding time. This 8-month timeframe coincides with seasonal inclement weather (heavy rain, thunderstorms, and extreme hot/cold temperatures), parasite outbreaks, and hunting season. (hunting season alone accounts for 6 weeks of the riding season) The current shortened season also limits locals seeking equestrian recreation in winter months.
